Many cross-border e-commerce sellers have purchased pre-registered accounts to bypass initial setup hurdles. However, platforms like Amazon and TikTok Shop are aggressively tightening their compliance policies. Recently, TikTok Shop's risk control team detected suspicious account-reselling activities and black-hat operations, leading to a successful joint investigation with law enforcement that dismantled two major illicit networks.

The 3 Million RMB TikTok Shop Account Ring Dismantled

According to reports, police in Quanzhou, Fujian Province, arrested a suspect (identified as Zeng) between July and August 2025. Authorities seized a massive volume of falsified registration materials and stolen personal identity information. Investigations revealed that Zeng had been registering and reselling TikTok Shop merchant accounts since 2022, generating illicit profits exceeding 3 million RMB over three years.

The "Sell-and-Reclaim" Scam Exposed

A second investigation was launched in September 2025 after multiple merchants reported their accounts stolen. TikTok Shop's security team discovered that the registered emails of the compromised accounts had been systematically changed to a single domain suffix, with login verification codes forwarded to a centralized inbox—a pattern pointing to coordinated overseas manipulation.

This investigation exposed a highly deceptive loop known as the "Sell, Reclaim, and Double-Charge" scheme:

  • Sellers purchase a pre-registered store account through unauthorized third-party channels.
  • The illicit sellers or middlemen use recovery mechanisms to lock the buyer out of the account.
  • The middlemen then charge the buyer additional "recovery fees" under the guise of helping them regain access, leaving the victim unable to run their business while being repeatedly extorted.

Severe Consequences for Buyers

Sellers who purchase these illicit accounts face severe operational and financial risks. Because these accounts often originate from fraudulent data or violate platform terms of service, they quickly trigger automated risk-control flags. Once suspended, sellers lose their initial investment, inventory capital, and store credibility, with damages far exceeding the cost of the account itself.

Platform Compliance and Industry-Wide Crackdowns

TikTok Shop has reiterated that account authenticity and entity compliance are top priorities. The platform is continuously upgrading its risk-detection algorithms and actively collaborating with global law enforcement to track down illicit service providers.

This crackdown is not isolated to TikTok Shop. Similar account-reselling rings have recently been dismantled on Amazon, highlighting a broader, industry-wide push to eliminate black-hat supply chains and protect the integrity of the global e-commerce ecosystem.
