Many media buyers have recently encountered a frustrating ghost bug in Meta Ads Manager. While publishing campaigns, a red error banner suddenly blocks the launch: WhatsApp number required: Reconnect your WhatsApp number to your Facebook Page or Instagram account to run this ad. (#2446880).
What makes this glitch particularly infuriating is that it occurs even on standard website conversion campaigns where WhatsApp is not selected as a conversion location. If duplicating the campaign and starting fresh does not resolve the issue, here are three proven workarounds to bypass the error and get your ads live.
Method 1: The "Call" Button Trick
This is currently the fastest and most effective workaround to bypass the system's logic error.
- Navigate to the ad editing level.
- Scroll down to the Browser Add-on section.
- Change the setting from None to Call.
- Wait for about one second. You will see the red WhatsApp warning banner instantly disappear.
- Immediately switch the setting back to None.
The system will not trigger the error again, allowing you to publish your ad smoothly.
Method 2: Isolate Your Creative and Copy Edits
This bug frequently triggers when you duplicate an ad set and attempt to modify both the creative (images/videos) and the ad copy at the same time in the same interface. Meta's current interface logic seems to struggle with simultaneous multi-variable updates.
To bypass this, use a separated editing workflow:
- When editing a duplicated ad, open the media uploader and modify only the image or video. Do not touch any text fields.
- Click Next and close the media customization window completely.
- Once back in the main ad editor interface, proceed to update your primary text, headlines, or targeting.
By physically separating your visual and textual edits, you prevent the system from triggering the validation error.
Method 3: Publish Individually Instead of in Bulk
The validation check that triggers Error #2446880 often occurs during the bulk publishing phase. If you have multiple campaigns or ad sets queued up, clicking the green "Publish" button in the top right corner is highly likely to trigger the block.
Instead of bulk publishing, go to the individual ad level and click the Publish button next to that specific ad. Publishing ads one by one bypasses the bulk validation filter, allowing your campaigns to go live without a hitch.
In performance marketing, dealing with Meta's interface glitches is part of the job. Instead of wasting time trying to link unnecessary WhatsApp accounts, use these three workarounds to keep your campaigns running and focus your energy on creative testing and ROAS optimization.
